Taking a Path of Peace

Throughout his life, Nichidatsu Fujii practiced a path to peace based upon Buddhist ideals. Today, the order that he founded, Nipponzan Myohoji (the Japan Buddha Sangha), carries on this work through walks, construction of pagodas dedicated to peace, and their constant practice of prayer.

Peace Pilgrimage for a Nuclear Free World

The current crisis in Japan is a call to renew our efforts for a nuclear free world. A walk from the Indian Point nuclear power plant in New York to the Vermont Yankee plant (April 10-26) will pray for those affected in Japan and envision a world without nuclear energy or bombs. For more information about this walk, click on the title link.

Regardless of whether you can join this walk, keep the people of Japan and the world in your thoughts and prayers. Donations to relief efforts are certainly needed. And wherever you live, work for a world based upon a sustainable future. The decisions that have created our reliance upon nuclear energy have been political, directing large subsidies to the nuclear industry instead of alternative energy. Nuclear is the most expensive and most dangerous option we can pursue. It is time to learn from the events in Japan, support the victims of that disaster, and create a better world for our children.
